Release 1.8.28

December 21st, 2009

We’ve been working quietly for the last little while, so we feel it’s time for an update.

We managed to simplify a lot the geotagging process. Since we all use the slideshow to view the pictures, the easiest way to geotag would be to just drag the picture - or a bunch of pictures - over the map inside the slideshow.

And that’s what we did. Check it out, it’s very cool.

The slideshow has two modes, the “show one picture” and the “show all pictures”. The geotagging feature works for both of them:

  • in “show one picture” mode, just open the map and drag & drop the thumbnails from the left hand side column;
  • in “show all pictures” mode use the Manage pictures menu to enable select/multiple-select so you can drag & drop pictures over the map.

The Manage pictures menu also features an enhanced Delete functionality so you can multiple-select pictures to delete. This makes it much easier to delete a bunch of pictures at once, which comes in handy when someone uploads by mistake the wrong pictures.

We plan to release new features that will fit great under the Manage picture menu. Stay tuned!

And last, but not least, the obligatory eye candy:

Release 1.8.22

September 2nd, 2009

Hot on the heels of the previous release:

  1. Pictures initially uploaded in the original resolution will now show in Full HD quality;
  2. The slideshow has been improved to plot all the geotagged pictures on the map;
  3. We now detected when you upload the same picture multiple times, so you don’t run the risk of duplicating them if you have to re-upload a bunch of them;
  4. Totally reworked picture selector for the journal to properly support lots of pictures;
  5. Bunch of other little fixes and improvements.

We’ve already started work on the next release, lots of goodies planned for the next few weeks.

  • Wiki-syntax: comments and messages understand URLs or simple markup such as *…* for bold text.
  • Slideshow improvements: keyboard accelerators (TAB=Show all, +/- = faster/slower play)
  • Lots of smaller fixes and improvements sprinkled throughout the site.

Release 1.8.14

August 11th, 2009

It’s summer, it’s fun, and life is good!

A bit rainy here in Toronto (who am I kidding, it rains as if we are at the tropics!), keeping us a bit more productive than a usual summer :)

Here are the highlights of this release:

  • Redesigned slideshow: the new one is slicker, meaner, and all around cooler. Some of you have pushed us in this direction, and we love the end result. Kudos!
  • Enhanced support for itinerary legs that are to be travelled on foot or bike (as opposed to a motor vehicle);
  • Better browser compatibility, especially IE8;
  • The usual little fixes and cleanups.

And now the obligatory eye candy:

Release 1.8.10

June 20th, 2009

What’s new in this release:

  • Improved search: It’s easier to search on Zipalong. No more need to select one category at a time. Just type the word you’re looking for and we’ll create a summary of results from all the categories available: people/trips/pictures/groups. The search now looks deep inside the elements of a trip for more relevant results.
  • As usually, we’ve addressed several user feedbacks and few bug fixes.

Release 1.8.8

May 22nd, 2009

What’s new in this release:

  • Group sharing: Just like sharing trips, you can now share groups that catch your attention. Just use the share link on the group page.
  • RSS feeds: We’ve created some more feeds you can subscribe to. Just click on the familiar rss icon on the group, profile, or trips page.
  • As usually, we’ve addressed several user feedbacks and few bug fixes.

With this release we wanted to cleanup some of the backlog in terms of feedbacks and little things that were nagging us. Next we’ll be working on a revamp of the messages/comments among other things, so stay tuned!

Release 1.8.6

May 14th, 2009

What’s new in this release:

  • Groups have now a discussion board: it’s basically a forum, organized into topics, where members can chat and post comments.
  • RSS feeds: follow your Zipalong news in your favourite RSS reader! Just click on the little RSS icon on the top-right corner of your newsfeed.
  • Share your trips on Facebook, Twitter, and Digg, right from the Share bubble.
  • As usually, we’ve addressed several user feedbacks and few bug fixes.

More goodies coming soon!

We have a new logo!

April 30th, 2009

This version is a better expression for the way Zipalong really is. Solid and simple.
The logo comes to light together with other UI updates as a first step towards a more ‘organic’ look and feel of Zipalong.

Release 1.8.2

April 29th, 2009

This release has taken a bit longer than we expected, but we’ve added a major new feature:

  • Groups. Start your own mini-community, or join others who share common interests. We’ve designed groups for flexibility, so it’s really up to you on how you want to use them

We now have a Simpler, nicer header. We are in the process of making Zipalong simpler and better looking, this is just the first step
